One of the most soluble fiber rich sources, Psyllium husk comes from a shrub-like herb called Plantago Ovata. 

It is most commonly used as a natural laxative and aids digestion.

Properties:

• Is a bulking agent and helps for constipation
• It absorbs water in the gut and makes bowel movements much easier
• Also helps with diarrhoea due to its ability to bind
• Aids in satiety and people use it for weight loss
• Also very useful in aiding those suffering from IBS
• It is considered a Pre-biotic and may promote healthy growth of probiotics in the gut

• Calcium 30mg: Iron 0.9mg

Uses:

• Dosage for psyllium differ. Some suggest 8 gm in a large glass of water per day.
• Side effects could be diarrhoea, bloating, nausea if too much is taken
• Used in baking to bind
• Used instead of eggs
