Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are the edible seeds of Salvia hispanica, a flowering plant in the mint family and are high in nutrients and fibre.
Properties:
- Classed as a SUPERFOOD
- High in Lignans – which lowers heart disease & cancer
- Chia delivers a massive amount of nutrients with very few calories
- Loaded with antioxidants which help fight free radicals
- High in fiber & Omega 3 fatty acids
- High in quality protein which makes up 14% of its weight
Nutritional Value per 100g:
- Protein 17g; Fat 31g; Carbs 42g; (most of which is fiber),Calcium 63%; Magnesium 83%; Iron 42%
RDA is 1 ½ tbsp. twice a day
Uses:
- Add to smoothies, oats, cereals
- Allow to soak before eating to obtain most of the nutrients
- Used as an egg replacement by soaking in water
- Add Chia to a nut milk or coconut milk, then layer with fruit for a desert.
